About OpenStuds

Why we say “bricks” instead of naming one brand

How we talk about building toys on OpenStuds, and why this page is the one place we name LEGO directly.

1
The whole ecosystem, not one logo
OpenStuds is for people who design and share custom models made from interlocking plastic parts. That world includes many compatible systems, third-party parts, and digital tools, not only products from a single company. Saying bricks or building bricks is our default because it describes the hobby without implying we speak for one manufacturer.
2
LEGO is a real brand (we’re not it)
If you grew up with plastic bricks, you probably know LEGO by name. That name belongs to the LEGO Group, and OpenStuds is a separate marketplace: we’re not them, and they don’t run this site. We stick to words like bricks when we mean “this kind of hobby” in general, so you’re never left wondering whether we’re an official LEGO shop. And we don’t use “lego” as slang for every brick under the sun. That’s their trademark, not a generic label for whatever’s in the bin.
3
What you will still see on OpenStuds
You may see proper names where they are factual: for example BrickLink, Studio, or other platforms and tools. Community terms like MOC (“My Own Creation”) stay: they describe fan-made models, not a single brand’s catalog. For what a MOC is in plain language, see What Are MOCs?.
