Hello! My latest entry in my TT series is this TIE Avenger Prototype seen in season 2 of Andor. I really liked seeing the ship in action on screen and quickly became a fan. This model is about 1:50 in scale and is compatible with official sets like the 2021 Imperial TIE Fighter and the 2023 TIE Bomber. The build has been physically tested. Minifigs are not included in the inventory.
Access to the pilot seat is possible by lifting off the oblong roof of the ship and folding down the 6x6 cockpit windscreen. In canon, access is only possible by entering through the rear with the back hatch, but due to the structural needs for the model and the limited size, the front is cut off from the back. I still did include the hatch, but it is used to hold onto some accessories for the ship. I decided to make the back section storage for the gatling guns and the heavy cannon on the bottom of the ship when not in use. The spring-loaded shooters are triggered by pressing down on the rearmost 2x2 curved slopes on the top oblong "hatch", and those press down on axels that fire out the actual projectiles.
It is a little tight to get in there with big hands, so it’s possible to swing the wings out of the way to better get in the cabin of the ship. An optional stand is included and holds the fighter at a flat position. Part of the stand can be rebuilt to accommodate the heavy cannon, because where the cannon lands and the stand connects partially overlaps. The ship can also sit on its wings, too.
All the lime green parts in the instructions can be any color and won’t show up in the final build. The stand is included in the spare parts to separate it from the main ship. I also have two parts lists; one for the fuselage and the second for the wings and stand. Hopefully this helps with organizing the pieces and improve the building process. The build cost me about $129.58, I definitely did not optimize my purchases and bought all my parts from both Bricklink and Lego. At the time of upload, it might be possible to get the parts for the MOC for about $100 through PaB.
This was a really fun project to try to figure but it really was tough. I think that even with the odd proportions and the style I try to go for with my TT models, this one turned out pretty good; It does kind of look like it got stung by a bee. If there are any questions, please let me know, otherwise I’ll be back soon with another MOC. Until next time, and happy building!
