Hello, and welcome back! The next MOC in my SWOV series (Star Wars and Other Vehicles) is The Bad Batch Shuttle, The Havoc Marauder. This modified Omicron-Class Shuttle is about 1:79 scale, which makes it compatible with sets like the 2019 Millennium Falcon and 2015 Imperial Shuttle Tydirium. The model has been physically built and tested.
The shuttle features nonretractable landing gear, folding wings which can be positioned in either their steep angle seen in The Clone Wars, or the angle seen in The Bad Batch. There isn’t technically a stopping point for the wings, but they hold themselves at whatever position they’re set at. The interior in the cockpit is accessible by removing two separate parts and the folding door. Access is a little limited, but the cockpit can hold two figures, possibly one or two more if positioned correctly. The main body is accessed by removing the center wing and two side wall panels. The Interior includes two of the emergency landing seats, the center console with rotating chair, a small weapons rack, an open box for head gear storage, a special standing spot for Gonky, and a gunner position that can even hold Wrecker with his large shoulders or have Omega standing straight up. Accommodations for the whole Bad Batch have been made!
While developing my model, I looked at the very limited selection of MOCs out there for inspiration for solutions to achieve certain details. Around the middle of the ship is where you might be able to recognize some of these solutions implemented if you’ve seen other designers throughout the years, like 2Bricks. The aesthetic of the wings (similar to TIE Fighter solar collectors) was inspired from the 2024 UCS TIE Interceptor. The inner black parts in canon have texture, so I translated that by making them fully studded, and had the grey “frame” around it be as smooth and tiled as I could to even out the potential clutter from having so many exposed studs. I am very satisfied with the final result on each wing and hopefully y’all like it too! It's not super colorful either, so if that does bother enough people, I might consider an updated color scheme.
One thing I will note about the center wing is that it does droop, and I may recommend adding two plates (potentially clear) under the fin if you are concerned about the parts stressing over time. I’ve only just begun trying to brainstorm solutions and will hopefully implement them soon. I've had he model for about a year but also have had a two plate insert cradling the fin occasionally. I don't think a major build update will be required, just minor tweaks.
The orange pieces seen in the instructions can be any color as they won’t be seen at all. This project has taken a long time with some hiccups along the way, but I really like what I was able to accomplish in the end and hope others like it too! If there are any problems or concerns with the model, please let me know and I’ll address them as best I can. Thank you for stopping by, and happy building!
