The T-64BV was an upgrade of existing T-64B tanks in 1985 and at the time was one of the most modern tanks in service. It was the first Soviet tank to use Kontakt-1 reactive armor and primarily equipped elite units stationed in Eastern Europe. Russia and Ukraine would inherit many post-USSR, and keep varying numbers in active service, with them being used by both sides in the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war.
